Curating print families is a process of observation and engagement with my surroundings. I am continually drawing inspiration passively, these images and feelings are translated into the pattern designs that I create. A high time preference activity, I begin by collecting my ideas and thinking about the objectives of any given print collection. I do preparatory drawings and refine them to the point of being a incorporated element in the print family. I “usually” try to develop the designs that I am using wholly and then ink them together. I find much like painting my inking hand changes, in order to achieve a harmony throughout the series of designs I do the final inking of all the designs at once. Subtle differences will be noted between the families but because design development is happening simultaneously a harmony is achieved in each individual collection of designs.
I enjoy developing designs that allow me to explore different options in printing. Whether they be different interlockable designs using the same template, or using diferente repeat patterns with border elements, my objective is adaptability and versatility in my hand printed designs.
