Art for Nomads 2009-2012

2009 was a year of change; Leaving my former business, meeting my future spouse, and adapting my interaction with the art and fashion industries. Creating collections centered around prints and hand elaborated textiles, building sceneographies that became a dialogue between the clothing and the environment. One concept that ran heavily through this work was the theory of dramology outlined by Irving Goffman in his thesis “Presentation of Self in Everyday Life”. Collaborating with the photographer D.C. Munisteri organizing parties around photoshoots in our studio on Borgo Ognissanti, documenting the pieces and selling the collections.

There are intersectional points in my work where personal shadow work and art production converge. These are the strong points where iconic vocabulary is developed to form a narrative. Meat chaser is a series of prints that were developed and configured onto clothing and textiles. The textile pieces were patchworked together into a large tapestry backdrop used in the photoshoot for the clothing at my apartment on Borgo Ognissanti in Florence Italy. The imagery is biographical and tells the story of my maternal grandparents from the south of the United States. My grandfathers taste for guns, pills, and beautiful women. My grandparents divorce, and my grandmother getting her first job working for the king of Saudi Arabia in the late 60’s.After the process of shooting the clothing the large tapestry was cut apart and used to produce a series of mixed media pieces that were shown at Chiasso Perduto in November 2016

The Last of the three major projects is called Capsule. The collection was presented during Pitti Uomo in June 2010 In an event organized by one of Pitti Imagines collaborative partnerships.  A collection of clothing inspired by and using the wines of Marchese Mazzai exploring themes of decadence and transition. The installation was in an space awaiting renovation, a culmination of various painted panels and tapestries creating a pod like environment. Youth in the last redoubt of culture.

Capsule is diverse from the two previous collections and installations in as much being a whole commission there were certain parameters to my creative output. The clothing collection was included in the exhibition “Winemotion” at the Kaoshung Museum of Arts in 2011.

In 2011 I moved to the neighborhood of Florence known as Piazza Puccini, and Visited Montevideo for the first time. Spending the last two years working on garments and installations I focused more on painting and image creation. Returning to found images and collage, resulting in a series of mixed media pieces. Surfaces of these paintings were inspired by the decomposing posters and advertising manifests that were omnipresent in the urban landscape. Ideals that are presented Ideals that are hidden. What we aspire to based on our surroundings. This series was presented in tandem with Meat chaser at Chiasso Perduto in November 2016.
