Beauty is objective, it can be studied and reproduced. Canons of beauty produced during the Greek empire (magna grecia) have been used, referenced and appropriated throughout time. My work is an extension of those traditions into a contemporary language. I am constantly fascinated by the concepts and applications of human intervention in lived spaces, ruminations about interactions of humans over the course of history, and how they have used a skeletal vocabulary of what is assumed to be the highest cultural aspirations.

My aim is to find meaning while building a narrative is a process that happens during the creation. I am acting as a reflection of a much larger temporal arch, rendering it down mirroring my own personal lived experience. My research encompasses the idea of dismantling traditional  barriers between what is considered high culture and what is considered folkloric, exploring how these concepts have been transformed related to who is replicating them, how they are being reproduced, and what the residual goal of the space or artifact. I’m observing cosmopolitan consistencies, how luxury and empire look.

My work is manually processing a dialog with material cultural fictions. The creative process is all encompassing and is reflected in the spaces that we inhabit. I am an artisan of my own surroundings.

A process begins with an exercise of creating or collecting the elements that I will use in my mixed media work. Typically the result is a dissection of the pieces produced. Cutting, collaging, gluing and sewing, reconfiguring a patchwork of images and surfaces.  The resulting interactions of forms, designs and materials are used as narrative building mechanisms.

Paintings, prints, found objects and elements cannibalized from my own artisan production are used to create chimeric assemblages. My work is a self contextualization inside the greater narrative of a nation. A history of movement, migration, and manifest destiny; Exploring new aesthetic possibilities while standing on the shoulders of giants.

My pieces are artifacts of a process, a search for self within a context of an immutable identity.
